1986 – Today
Historical Discourses was first founded by McGill History students, Trevor Dickie and Jonathan Becker, during the 1986-1987 school year. Historical Discourses has come a long way since 1986 and has currently published 32 amazing volumes.
At the time, Dickie and Becker felt that there was no adequate forum to feature the historical research conducted by history students each year.
They created Historical Discourses as a way to fill this gap and give students the opportunity to publish their best research and work for an annually published student-run journal.
Dickie and Trevor also hoped to give the few undergrads comprising the Editorial Board, a chance to gain experience in journal creation. They hoped that editors would learn how to better recognize, review, and edit great historical research and that it might in turn, help them when conducting their own research.
Historical Discourses is still around and working hard to feature amazing undergraduate papers and artwork.
Keep an eye out for Volume XXXIII!
